My Challenge as Iman's Caregiver

My day to day  life is full of challenges, coping with my son's behavior. I got to be more patient beside gaining some some new knowledge in Autism World. My son insisted to go to school even at night. When I said the school is closed, he threw his tantrums again and again. Making myself so exhausted. Now I see the need to open an AUTISM CENTRE in Dungun.

A PLAN TO SET UP AN AUTISM CENTRE IN DUNGUN

Alhamdulillah, my application to go back to Dungun had already approved by UiTM. Thanks to my boss for his approval and support. I'm already here since August 1st, 2013. I came back to Dungun with a hope that I'll managed to set up an Autism Centre here in Dungun. What had happened to Tajul Iman (when he was terminated from school) became a triggering factor for me to proceed with the effort in setting up our own Autism Center. In this post I update from time to time the information on d progress in setting up the Center. I faced some difficulties to form this centre, but I will never give up.

1. My first attempt is to get the parents to sit together for us to form a "Parents Assocciation.  After the association had been formed,  The 2nd step is to open a n                 So to those out there who really want to coorperate with me, you can call me ASAP as I got to work out about this Centre. My contacts are 019-9691886 and 03-87390886.

IMAN'S STRUGGLE FOR EDUCATION

It has been sixth month since my son was terminated from Maia UKM. Everyday until now, my son keeps on saying "Maia" "Maia", "UKM" "UKM". I cried in tears every time he insisted to go back to his previous education centre. Since he was terminated in July 2012, I'd been seeking for some other alternatives, at least a better option. I managed to send him to a Government School, Sek Keb Jalan 6, Bandar Baru Bangi, but it's just operating for half day. I couldn't find a taxi driver who is willing to send him back  from school everyday.

As a result, I got to be in Bangi until 12 pm, sending him back to my house, then drive my car to UiTM Shah Alam. I feel so guilty to my organization. I got to stay in my office until 9 pm everyday, for me to fulfill my working hours, as I was required to have a 39 hours per week as a lecturer at UiTM. At last, I got a "memo" for not being able to meet my organizational requirement. I'd been thinking to quit my job, but I don't think I can make it with a single income.God please HELP ME. Please give me some strength FOR MY SON....

SEEKING FOR DENTAL TREATMENT

Last Friday I brought him to Klinik Kesihatan Bangi but the Doctor fail to treat him. The Doctor need to jab him to take out the teeth but he couldn't sit still. After some time the Doctor at last referred him to the Mouth Surgery Specialist at Hospital Serdang. So I hope whoever read this blog and have some other alternatives for us let us know via e mail to tjlddn@gmail.com. I really appreciate your help.My son suffers a lot. He cries all night telling me "sakit" "sakit". All the family members couldn't sleep. Pity my kids!

School bullies on autism children

Research published in Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine shows that children with autism spectrum disorders, who typically have difficulty in communicating and forming relationships, are far more likely to be bullied than their non-autistic peers.

“I would call it a profound public health problem,” said Paul R. Sterzing, lead author of the new study and an assistant professor at the school of social welfare at the University of California, Berkeley. “The rate of bullying and victimization among these adolescents is alarmingly high.”

The children at greatest risk, it turns out, appear to be those who also hold the most promise for leading an independent life. The researchers found that the risk of being bullied was greatest for high-functioning children who end up not in special education programs, but in mainstream classes, where their quirks and unusual mannerisms stand out and they are more exposed to bullies.

Many parents of children with autism already are well aware that their children are taunted and tormented at school, but the new study suggests the problem is pervasive. Dr. Sterzing’s data, collected from a nationally representative sample of 920 middle- and high-school students with an autism disorder, shows that 46 percent have been bullied.  By comparison, in the general adolescent population, an estimated 10.6 percent of children have been bullied.

The findings are based on data collected in 2001 from a larger 10-year study of more than 11,000 special education students. Parents of autistic children and school administrators were asked to report on instances of bullying that occurred in the previous year.
